Abstract

When people suffering from multiple sclerosis value the illness as a threat they show diverse responses in functional independence and mood (depression and anxiety). Such responses are not triggered by the illness itself. 55 patients, participated in che study. The BEEGC and ICPDF scales were used to identify two coping styles (active and passive) which stem from personality characteristics and the presence or absence of a primary caretaker. Results using MIF, BDI and STAI scales show that the coping style of patients has a direct influence upon his or her responses to stress, anxiety, depression, and disability.
