Abstract

Until the studies of Leewenhoek in the XVIIth century, the microbial world was not visible for us despite the fact that they have been accompanied us even before of our existence. Bacterial size was under the limit power of our eyes and they were assigned to the microscopic world. However, its belonging to this world has been put in evidence after the discovery of the so called gigantic bacteria or megabacteria, whose size is over the limit power of the human eye, making them visible at simple sight. The problem of this size in order to carry out their metabolic functions, based in the process of diffusion, is solved through structural and morphological adaptations and also to the mobility and the environment where they live. As happens ever that we try to classify the world that surrounds us, exceptions arise.
