Abstract

Bacterial adhesion is one of the key ecological processes for the degradation of organic matter until its mineralization. This bacterial adhesion creates what are called bacterial biofilms; formed by the immobilization of microorganisms on the surface of a biological substrate or an inert support, usually embedded in a polymeric organic matrix (EPS: extracellular polymeric substances) [Marshall, K.C., ASM News, 58: 202, (1992)].”
