Abstract

The disasters caused by the Greek oil tanker “Mar Egeo” off the Galician coast, along with the one caused by the “Braer” in the Shetland Islands, north of Scotland, have once again, unfortunately, drawn public attention to the pollution problems caused by massive oil spills, commonly known as “oil slicks” or “black tides”, which are water-in-oil emulsions that can resemble “chocolate mousse”
