Abstract

Complexity is a term that can mean many things; this is already said in not so recent books (R. Lewin: ‘Complexity’, Metatemas 41. Tusquets, 1992). For this reason, D. McShea (Biology and Phylosophy 6:303- 324, 1991) says that complexity is an ‘elusive’ term. Among biologists, the complexity of the systems we study and their continuous increase is a shared feeling; but do we know what we are talking about?
