Abstract

The African savannah elephant (Loxodonta africana) is endangered because of two main
reasons, human-animal conflict and ivory poaching. In this article we address how this hunting is
causing, through artificial selection, the tendency towards the appearance of elephants without tusks
or with very short tusks.
