Abstract

If we consider the achievements obtained by a Spanish researcher in relation to the circumstances in which he developed his scientific work, it would be difficult to find someone whom we can place ahead of Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-1934). This Aragonese, Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1906 (shared with Camillo Golgi), always figures in the list of the most recognized Spanish scientists worldwide. But it is surely much less known that Ramón y Cajal’s first vocation was that of an artist.
