Abstract

Plants have developed highly precise signaling and response mechanisms to adapt their physiology to changing and often hostile environments. One of the signaling mechanisms involves small-sized gaseous molecules that are toxic at moderate concentrations. Our work has demonstrated that cyanide is a signaling molecule capable of eliciting responses in plants through a novel protein modification, the S-cyanylation.
