Abstract

The introduction to the essay relates writing and survival in Unamuno and in Lledó —in the first one as a multidimensional will and in the second as a collective alive memory— and then summarizes the life and the work of Emilio Lledó. The essay comments several texts of Lledó’s piece Memoria de la ética about death and about the existence extended in the classical era of Greek culture and philosophy. In conclusion, and based on the epicureanism of Lledó, a certain distinction is reaffirmed between the proposals of a theory of post-mortem life based on survival by memory and another theory that points to life enduring by the impulse of mind and courage or thymós.
