Abstract

Kierkegaard’s thought prevents an engagement with the reality of being human from a merely speculative attitude. Since man is spirit, freedom is always present, rendering any approach ignoring this condition inadequate. The human is not a static reality. Therefore, to understand his own dynamism, it is necessary for him to enter into the apparent contradiction of being both a mystery and a task for himself. This paper will follow that same direction, on the basis of the descriptions contained in The Concept of Anxiety and The sickness unto death.
