This work is an introduction to the effects of sustainability in the Ibero-American urban planning legal system, starting from the comparative analysis of four countries: Spain as the first regulatory country from the legal point of view of urban planning in this field, already from the laws of the Indies and the 1956 Land Law; Colombia as a country with a developed but not "European" legal-urban system; the Dominican Republic whose constitutional provisions have not yet been embodied in a specific Law on the matter; and Uruguay with a recent legislation that is impregnated with the funds of sustainability. .
