As an autochthonous Chinese religion, Taoism possesses a peculiar system of rituality, which not only plays an important role in Taoist culture but also has a certain influence on the folk customs of the Chinese people. In this present work we try to introduce the theoretical framework and historical background of rituality from the era of witchcraft and prehistoric religions; practices such as the altar decorations, the holy utensils involved and the specific actions in which religious concepts are manifested; the Taoist constructions for the important rites; and finally the festivals whose origin is found in the cults to the Taoist deities.
